Whitney Houston and Dana Bash
Whitney Elizabeth Houston, born 9 August 1963 into an incredibly musical family from Newark New Jersey is the daughter of Gospel star Cissy Houston and John Russell Houston Jr. She's also the cousin of singer Dionne Warwick. She began singing in the choir at her church The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark when she was a child and by the age of 15, she had begun singing backing vocals professionally with her mother on Chaka Khan's 1978 smash Im Every Woman. After that, she began to sing backing vocals with Jermaine, Lou Rawls, and her mother. In 1981, she began working as a singer with the New York-based funk group Material. It was her high-quality vocal performance with this group that caught interest of recording label like Arista. Whitney Houston, her debut album, released in 1985 was the most-sold album by a debut singer. The album had several smash singles, like Saving the Day, All My Love for You How Do You Know You're Good to Love And The More Love of All. This helped her achieve seven US Number Ones in a row. It was even better than the Beatles. The album was sold out of 3 million copies during its first season in the US and went on to make 25 million copies worldwide, earning her the first of her six Grammies. The Whitney album of 1987, which featured the songs I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Where Do Broken Hearts Get to continue her popularity. It was The Bodyguard of 1992 that made her one of the biggest-selling performers in the history of music. While the film wasn't highly appreciated and neither did her performance, the music of her Dolly Parton version I Will Always Love You was able to reach the top of both the singles and album charts in America for months. She sold 44,000,000 copies. When she had her daughter Bobbi Brown, she got married to Bobby Brown of the ex-New Edition group. Her drug addiction began in the middle of 1993 and in 1996, she'd been a frequent user.
