April Ross
April Ross is one of just a handful of female beach volleyball players to win medals at more than one Olympics. In Tokyo over the next several days she will attempt to win her third gold medal with fellow first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. But more than that, Ross hopes to win her first Olympic gold. As she turns 39, it could be her last chance to win the Olympic gold. Nevertheless she is confident that winning the gold medal is at hand. If we play our highest or perform well, I think we'll be able to win that gold medal Ross stated on NBC Boston. This is also an issue of luck. Ross born in 1982, and grew up within Costa Mesa California with her siblings and parents, started competing in athletics at Newport Harbor High School. Along with participating in a variety of sports, Ross was also a student at Newport Harbor High School. In addition to the indoor game, she also played basketball and jogged track in her pre-college days. In the last sport she stood out. In her college profile, she was an outside hitter middle blocker, and setter throughout her volleyball time at high school. Thanks to her hard work she was awarded in 1999 as the Gatorade Champion of Champions Circle of Champions Player of the Year. Additionally, in 2000, she was named Orange County Athlete of the Yr for volleyball. Ross has been playing with Klineman since 2017. However, Ross's beach game was established well before this. It's true that she has been able to win multiple tournaments, including one with a legendary volleyball player. In the period 2007-2013 she played alongside Jennifer Kessy who more recently was Klineman's coach. Alongside Kessy Ross, she was a major force in the world circuit, winning a world title in 2009. In 2012, the duo took silver in London's Olympic Games. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the group to beat for the gold. It was fate that had them. Ross was Walsh Jennings' new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. The duo were able to win the beach volleyball bronze during the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross participated in the USC Trojans in college after graduating from high school. The Trojans had a great career for Ross in the university. She was an All-American as well as Pac-10 freshman of the year when she was a teen freshman. In 2000, her Trojans made it to the Final Four. Her personal life was tense after a devastating loss during her sophomore year, however, she was successful in achieving the All-American title. In the two years she played for the Trojans she was instrumental in helping them win consecutive championships. Her individual achievements have cemented her status as a legend in volleyball. She won the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the nation's best female collegiate player. Ross was a student at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, did not have the chance to watch her daughter become the beach volleyball's biggest star. As of 2001, when Ross was a sophomore studying at USC her mother passed away due to breast cancer. But, she will always keep her mother's memory close and close. Margie is a source of inspiration throughout her life, as well as on the beach.
